Day Two of Five Eventful Days Ends
Captain Jerry and David Gallup had decided that since this weather was so rare in San Miguel, we should stay and enjoy it for two full days.  We wouldn't leave for Santa Rosa until very early .... really VERY early on Monday morning.

I had taken a sack lunch and ate it in my little cove on the beach.  Most of the rest of the group were hiking up the long sandy hill to the top of the island and walking over to a little forest of crystallized trees.

After I was almost finished with my first painting, Amery Bohling – another fabulous painter -- came over to scout the site I was in.   Earlier she had walked up to the top of the dune but decided not to continue so she had come back early from the hike.   She made a suggestion about a likely spot for my second painting.

It actually turned out that she had painted this same rock... It could be posted on her website.  Check it out.  She's quite adept at painting rocks since she lives in Arizona and paints the Grand Canyon exquisitely.  Later when we were all back on the boat, she gave me some advice about using some bold strokes rather than my little dabs as I was painting my rocks.   The day began to cool down as the wind came up in the late afternoon and so I walked back and joined a small group who were returning to the boat.

Most of the hikers returned in the late afternoon, but it wasn’t until halfway through the dinner that David and Diane finally returned – happy after a great afternoon of painting.   Another delicious dinner and some hearty painters painted another moonrise.

On Sunday I was sitting at the dinner tables writing this post while listening and joining in with some loud and fun sing-a-longs.   David has three of his four brothers here on the trip.   I understand that all of the boys play the guitar, but his brother, Steve, is terrific and we all just really enjoyed the camaraderie and joy of singing together.  There is a video clip I posted on FB but our memory is better than the singing on the clip.

We ran outside to look at the beautiful stars in the Milky Way…. Something I haven’t seen in a long time.

I went off to bed but discovered that several people went out around 11:00 and painted a nocturne.
