I have such beautiful memories of my time on San Miguel Island. Not only were we treated to exceptional weather ... warm and windless in the morning, but it was also my first time ever to go out in a kayak.
San Miguel's legendary cold windy weather was gone. Have you EVER seen seas ANYWHERE as glassy as in this photo? Mornings were really quite beautiful..... I paddled all over the bay.
Since we have returned home, all of us who went on this Channel Islands adventure have been exchanging emails and photos. It helps us relive the good times we had just a bit. I decided to spend some time painting here at home using my fond memories and several of the photos I took. As I painted I remembered that glassy morning and the beautiful sunrise that the sailboat was leaving behind.
My daughter was visiting and came over to look at all the paintings I worked on while I was on the trip, but she liked this pastel and grey sunrise sailboat better than anything I painted there on the islands.
