Ablaze by Southern California Artist Marian Fortunati

I've been reading about the snow piling up back east due to the lake effect and the freezing stormy weather endured by so many of my blogging buddies, but here in Southern California it's quite different.   Some people think we don't really have any weather... or even any seasons.   We do... they are just different.  We do get snow... just not usually where I live.   I can actually remember three or four times in my whole life when it snowed here in Los Angeles.   It didn't last the day but it was sure exciting.

And for the last year I'd say our weather has been a bit different.   It has been bit wetter which is a REALLY GOOD THING.  We are a drought prone area and water is constantly an issue, so rain is very good.   Our last summer was milder.  Our blast-furnace heat lasted only a few weeks rather than months.  Happily I was off on trips both times so I missed them all together this year!   Hopefully this kinder-gentler weather will repeat itself in the years to come.

Our trees do reflect our seasons albeit a bit later than in many climates.  This spring the jacarandas didn't turn purple until almost late June!  Recently we had a period of a few weeks when everywhere the trees were golden, rust, blazing red, ocher, bright yellow and even these amazing pinkish-orangish-reddish colors.   - Just glorious against the evergreens and eucalyptus!   Then last week we had a rain storm and yesterday a bit of our winter winds blew in and now some of those trees are beginning to look a bit bare.   You've got to capture that color and enjoy it while you can, that's for sure!

I hope you all are enjoying whatever wonderful weather you have -- There are wonders everywhere aren't there?
