Color Head Study - Alanna 16"x12" - Oil |
I'm running behind on this blog. I've got four paintings going... one of them is a commission which is just KILLING me. But I keep plugging away at it. The others are landscapes and I've found it helpful to let them sit and rotate around before I say they're "finished".
This head study was done a bit over a week ago in Julie Snyder's uninstructed figure workshop at McGroarty Arts Center. For whatever reason, I was running late and arrived after everyone had already started.
Happily the class wasn't crowded. I had decided to play with color a bit more than I did last time. We had the same model - Alanna. My study is a long way from perfect, but I was pleased.
Apparently it's a decent likeness because I took it to David Gallup's class the next day and he knew that it was Alanna right away. (Although she missed last week, she's a student in David's class.)
I liked playing with the color of the skin, but have so much more to learn about that. I decided that what I put down in class was all the time I wanted to invest in this one so it is as it was when I left class.
Practice, practice... experiment... practice some more.
