This scene is about 10 minutes north of the town of Mammoth Lakes in the Eastern Sierras of California. In December there was very little snowfall creating the patterns of snow in the foreground field. In recent days, there have been storms that brought a couple of feet of new snow on the ground and more in the mountains creating a completely different landscape and no doubt more inspiration for new paintings.
