I was fascinated by the texture of the weathered bark and the twisted limbs and branches of this old tree.
This painting is more detailed than most of my paintings, but this particular subject required it in order to capture the effects that interested me.
For this one I also used colors that were more subtle and subdued than many of the plein air paintings that my collectors are familiar with.
