Roses On Newton Street by Southern California Artist Marian Fortunati

Roses On Newton Street© Marian Fortunati
10" x 8" Oil On RayMar Canvas Panel

Trying to Find A Unique Point Of View
How do you paint homes and neighborhoods?  How do you capture a scene but not be the same as everyone else??   I am struggling with these questions as I work on paintings for the upcoming show, "Rediscovering San Fernando".

Seeing New Places
As always, when challenged to paint subjects I wouldn't ordinarily paint, I have enjoyed learning.  I have traveled around the various neighborhoods in this small city and even visited the original adobe homestead of the rancho owner, Andres Pico.

Today I also visited the Mission.  It has been totally rebuilt since the 1994 earthquake and the visit was thoroughly enjoyable.

Seeing the same thing but differently
However, I have tried to look at some of the home portraits a bit differently.  This little 10"x8" portrait might still be recognizable to the owner, but the focus is more on the lovely flowers in the front yard than it is on the house itself.   I enjoyed painting this one...  I had a bit of a chance to play with the paint which is always a fun thing for me.

On the left I am including close up photo of the sunlit roses so you can see the fun I had with the brushes!
