"Fields of Joy (version two)" is a painting that was inspired by the first.   Working in series is good practice or a good habit to get into as an artist, and I can see changing or tweaking the concept from these first two.  These are inspired by my post-modern era roots in southern California, Mondrian and other inspirations!  Modernism is back and I'm enjoying it.  

I live in a neighborhood surrounded by safflower fields, alfalfa fields and right now,  winter wheat.  In the summer the sunflowers are everywhere . . . so there you have the origins for the name of this painting.

I'm focusing on abstracts and abstracted landscapes for 2013; a new season of spring, the time of growth and I'm doing new work.  Please contact me if you have questions or want to purchase; contact me H E R E

This painting began as some gestural marks on canvas, then I came in with areas of acrylic paints.  I'm using a familiar color palette -  vermillion or red-orange, medium yellow, cerulean and white.  When I paint in abstracts I have pots of premixed colors sitting on my palette, ready to dip into.  

Put on some music and paint fast is my method for painting in abstracts!  Later on I added some layers in oil paints because I wanted some more subtlety in the finished painting.
