I often start painting with no references, just making things up out of my head.  I love flowers; the florals in this painting aren't a specific type.  A couple years ago I was inspired while driving to my studio, driving past masses of blooming roses and meanwhile Eric Clapton was playing in my car.  The painting that resulted was 'In the Presence", and just for fun I included an image of that painting (now sold) below.  I'm staying with the theme of Eric Clapton songs / lyrics for these floral paintings that I make up, in this similar vein.  "Grand Illusion' began with a preliminary painting in acrylic paints and I quickly went to oil paints.  It took shape over the course of a few days.

I'm focusing on abstracts and abstracted landscapes for 2013; a new season of spring, the time of growth and I'm doing new work.  Please contact me if you have questions or want to purchase; contact me H E R E

"Floral Chroma" mixed media floral painting by Lynne Cunningham

"Floral Chroma", mixed media on canvas
acrylic, acrylic ink, oil paints and oil pastel
24" x 30"
completed March 4, 2013
$1200.  plus shipping
(Calif. residents pay sales tax)

"Floral Chroma" began with an idea of a floral abstract and I set out an acrylic color palette.  Painting in acrylic on canvas allows me to paint very loose on canvas which I love!  The highly pigmented underlayer in
acrylic began in impressionist brushstrokes, and some thinned acrylic for light lines to establish the composition.  Areas of acrylic inks were then painted, with oil paints later and some further marks in oil pastel.  I love those oil pastels from Sennelier; I was introduced to them years ago in a demo held for the Napa Valley Artists by Savoir Faire, an art materials distributor in Northern California.

This painting is destined for a spring-themed group show in a local gallery.  There has already been interest in it, however if you'd like to purchase a similar painting, please contact        me H E R E

I do take commissions and a similar painting can be yours!    I estimate shipping costs within the U.S. would be around $75. and would be by FedEx Ground.
