FREEWAY URBAN LANDSCAPE by TOM BROWN1

This is Culver and the I-5 Freeway, usually a very congested area. Today I had the pleasure of painting in near silence; little traffic and few pedestrians as I painted. I wanted to capture the gritty "grayness" of the concrete setting, yet use subtle color throughout. I wanted to bring out the beauty in a "gray" scene like this. And I was pleased with this result. Hope you like it too.

Here’s a small piece I painted in the studio from a plein air sketch I did once when we were driving through the desert. The distant mountain range had stunning snow caps and I had stopped to sketch it for later use in the studio. Here’s the result. I’m happy with this one and hope you like it too.
