“MORNING LIGHT IN THE TREETOPS”
12x8 inch original plein air
oil painting by Tom Brown

The title says it well: the morning light washing across these treetops caught my eye. Shadows cast by neighboring trees created an interesting contrast, while the distant fields seemed to glow in the morning sunlight. This was painted last weekend during a plein air workshop I taught.
If you’re an artist who follows my blog this may interest you:
This Saturday (January 29th) I will be teaching a very unusual class that focuses on COLOR TEMPERATURE. This factor alone can make the difference between a “so-so painting” or one you’re really proud of. If you are able to attend I am sure you will find it worthwhile.
The class will be held outdoors on location in Orange County, California from 9am to noon. The cost is just $20 per person.
Here are a few things I will show you:
How to mix warms and cools of different color groups.
And where to use them. And why.
How to see color comparisons in the landscape.
And how to show them in your paintings.
How to use color temperature to establish the mood of your paintings.
How to strengthen the value structure of your compositions.
And lots more, including a special section devoted to “those troublesome greens.”
Participants are welcome to take photos or videos during this workshop.
If you would like to attend, email for details. tombrownstudio@cox.net
