“BEDAZZLING BACK BAY”
5x7 inch original plein air
oil painting by Tom Brown
Creativity was something I discussed in this morning’s workshop where I painted this.
Our natural tendency as artists is to see something we’d like to paint, and jump right in.
That’s a mistake. We should pause a moment and think it through from a creative standpoint. What do we want to accomplish, and how can we make it better than a photo?
Color and paint texture can help create the eye-catching flair we’re after. That was the case with this painting. I wanted it to have emotional sizzle.
I’m not interested in creating another painting just like every other painting I’ve seen. I want to paint something FRESH. Surprising. Something filled with emotional impact.
I felt the palette knife and color treatment added that touch of magic to this piece. Click the detail photo for a better look and let me know what you think.
Thanks for looking, and if you’re interested in purchasing details email: tombrownstudio@cox.net
