August 15 is our
anniversary. We've been married 41 years! Sometimes I think about
that and it is so hard to believe that all of this time has passed.
We were different people then and times were certainly different. But happily through raising our family and creating our home, we've continued to enjoy one another and appreciate the gifts we've shared over the years.
One special gift is my husband's cooking! It's one of the many art forms that he enjoys and has mastered. Gastone is a marvelous cook. Whether the meal is simple or a multi-course extravaganza, he knows how to make it special. But usually he starts with some basic ingredients such as those you see in this little painting called, "What's For Dinner".
This painting was a bit of a departure for me. I usually enjoy
painting landscapes, but a show is coming up and I thought... why not??
It will challenge me a bit. I rushed off to the store and set up,
then started out with the basic toned value sketch that you can see in
the photo on the side. As I went on, I began putting in most of the
big shapes and colors. I fiddled with it off and on over a week or so
and really ended up having to throw out most of the veggies. (Those
tomatillos got pretty soft and squishy!)
One of the good things about having a one-woman show coming up is if this painting isn't accepted into the show I painted it for, I can hang it in my own show! (GALE'S in Pasadena - September)
Each year on my anniversary, I include the link to my original story about how I met my husband, Gastone, in Venice, Italy and then married him there a year later.
Perhaps you would enjoy reading it... either for the first time or once again:
