Hung!!
Well, I did it!! I've been painting my tail off to get new work for my one woman show, "One Lucky Artist at Gale's Restaurant" in Pasadena which opened today. I know those of you who are painters know how much work is involved in preparing for a show. Although I still had available paintings which could have been just fine for this new exhibit, I really wanted to create as much new work as possible for this venue. I was so thrilled when Gale invited me to show my work. So many artists I admire have had successful exhibitions there. She actually asked me a few years back, but I really didn't feel I was ready back then, so I declined. This time when she asked, I said "YES!"
New Work
This morning Tyler and I drove over to Gale's with 42 paintings of a wide range of sizes and types. Of the 42, almost 20 have been created since she offered me the spot. Not too bad, I think!! Because I've been experimenting with sizes, I also had to have many new frames made. OUCH!! Those square or really long and thin formats really look cool, but boy, oh boy, do they create havoc with the framing budgets! The painting you see on top is a normal 14x11 size. It's called "A Blue Vase".... (really original title, isn't it?)
So much to do
I returned from my Channel Islands Adventure (which is now lovingly called the "LEGENDARY" Channel Islands Adventure by the painters who attended), a little over a week ago. Since then I've completed two more paintings, had house guests, sent my husband off to Mexico, met a girlfriend I haven't seen in a few years, prepared for and attended a club planning meeting, watched another club's demo, gotten DRENCHED at a paint out at the beach, (what a beautiful and wild day... THAT painting needs to dry off and get finished) stood on a mountain looking for the space shuttle to fly over (WOW... how very exciting THAT was), and ordered and framed or reframed 20 paintings and done the usual chaffering stuff one does with a 12-year-old. I'm tired!!
Enthusiastic and generous support
But I was thrilled this morning. My wonderful friend, Laura Wambsgans, was taking down her show. (Her work is so beautiful, ... It's a hard act to follow.) It was great to see her. I owe her so much for her kind support and advice through the years. I never feel dumb when I ask her questions because she is always so gracious and generous with her information. Gale and her husband, Rene', met us outside and Rene' masterfully hung all of my paintings. I was impressed ... He knew just how to group them so that they looked like they were painted just for those spots.
And what a special treat I saw this afternoon in my email:
Scott is a FB friend and fellow artist who lives somewhere near Pasadena, where Gale's Restaurant is. I wasn't sure if he just happened to go by the restaurant or whether he went just to see the show, but it was SUCH a nice thing for him to send me a FB post saying that he enjoyed the art. I SO appreciate the encouragement!!
I've put the show up on my website, too. It helps me keep things organized that way. If you do get a chance, please go on by Gales, have a bite, and enjoy the art. You can avoid CARMAGEDDON... go to Pasadena. You won't need to take the 405 to make it to the reception on Saturday the 30th, between 4-6.
I'd love to chat with you.
